FAIL: Glenn Beck Not Social Scientist

/ At: 8:09 PM/

While searching for a new book to read at Borders earlier tonight, I happened upon a fail:

As you can see, our dear friends at Borders have placed the critical excellence of Glenn Beck (and Rush Limbaugh) in the "Social Science" section.  Now, I would understand if Beck and others like him (that means you too Jon Stewart!) were in a section such as "Social Issues," "Social Commentary" or "Social Perspectives," but that's not what happened.  This is a section for social scientists publishing work in the discipline of social science.  Let us be straight on this matter - not anything Glenn Beck produces qualifies as social science.  At the most, his work qualifies only for the critical consideration of social scientists who might be interested in his rhetorical process, but that certainly does not make Beck a social scientist.  He is a commentator and nothing more.

At any rate, I hope you enjoy this Borders fail.  I would have complained, but whats the point?  They'll be closing their doors soon anyway.

This would be like them putting America: The Book under history. It does have some historical facts in it but it is nothing but a comedic book. Although, both America and Earth were damn good pieces of comedy. Anyway, putting Glenn Beck in social science is crazy.

As an update, I was in Barnes and Noble earlier tonight with the girlfriend, and checked (thoroughly) their "social sciences" section for Glenn Beck material.  I am happy to report that he was not present.  However, he was (and appropriately, I think) found in the "current issues" section.  Well played, BN.
