General Discussion

Whoa!? Do you have a brilliant idea, but don't feel like writing it up and submitting it? Perhaps you have a question or general comment which doesn't fit neatly on a particular post. Hell, maybe you just saw something awesome and want to tell someone about it. Well, this is the area for that. Post away, but do keep it polite . . .

Welcome to the discussion board! Well . . . comment thread, anyway.
This is a fantastic idea. A comment thread that is not attached to a particular post is great. Especially because I have something to say about your current poll and I can't comment on it directly. The Rep. Weiner affair is somewhat annoying to me. The question of whether or not he should resign is relevant though. I don't think he should. I'm a fan of letting voters decide that. If New York has recall laws and someone wants to pursue that, fine. Otherwise, in 2012 his consituints get to decide whether or not he stays in office. His actions may be reprehensible, but they were not likely illegal. Nancy Pelosi did the right thing in calling for an ethics investigation. If the Congressman violated House rules, he should be punished. Outside of that we should let the people who live in his district decide his fate.
Anyway, great idea with this section.
Hey Matt,
All apologies for the ridiculously delayed response. I do a clean install on my computer about once per year, and this time around I forgot to add my comments email to Windows Mail. Ergo, things were pretty quite for a while. At any rate, I actually agree with you on Weiner - at the end of the day, I believe the choice resides with his constituents. I've been thinking about writing a post about whether or not the "law" and "morality" are the same/ought to be the same, but time has been short and I'm currently working on a piece about the Wolf Creek nuclear power plant (I had a chance to speak with their general council the other day).
Thanks for the comment - this is exactly why I thought a discussion board/comment thread would be a good idea!
I ran across a funny fact in Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything today:
"In
1781 Herschel became the first person in the modern era to discover a
planet. He wanted to call it George, after the British monarch, but was
overruled. Instead it became Uranus."
So, Uranus could have been "George." I lold.
